This page is for franchise owners when something happens that could lead to an insurance claim: an injury, damage to a customer's property, a theft, an accident or a lawsuit. Report it quickly. A late report can put the claim at risk.

Step 1. Take care of people first

If anyone is hurt, get them help and call 911 if needed. For an injured employee, get them treatment and keep the receipts. Make the scene safe and stop further damage if you can, such as shutting off water or covering a broken window.

Step 2. Write down what happened

  • Date, time and exact address
  • What happened, in a few plain sentences
  • Names and phone numbers of everyone involved and any witnesses
  • Photos of the damage and the scene
  • Any police or incident report number

Don't admit fault or promise to pay anyone. Leave that to the insurance company.

Step 3. Report it to your insurance company

Call the claims number on your policy or ID card, or use the carrier's website or app. Have your policy number ready and write down the claim number you get. Most of our clients report straight to the carrier, and it's the fastest route.

Step 4. Tell Rikor

If Rikor is your insurance agency, email support@rikor.io with your business name, the date, what happened and your claim number. If you'd rather we report it, send us the details from Step 2 and which policy you think applies. We send it to the insurance company within 2 hours, and carriers usually assign an adjuster within 24 to 48 hours.

Not sure which policy covers it? Report it anyway. We'll work out which policies apply.

Step 5. Tell your brand if your agreement requires it

Many franchise agreements require you to notify the brand about claims or lawsuits. Check your franchise agreement or operations manual.

After you report

  • The adjuster contacts you to gather details. Answer promptly and keep copies of everything you send.
  • If you're served with a lawsuit or get a demand letter, send it to the carrier and to us the same day. Legal deadlines are short.
  • Questions about whether something is covered go to the adjuster. We can help you follow up and understand the answer.
